In this day and age applying for a job is like the hunger games. So many candidates applying to ultimately be the last one standing. While great interviews skills and experience gets you noticed there's one tactic that will always make you stand out!
While we all know that it's all about who you know and less about what you know I found that quite a few people don't know how to establish these beneficial relationships. A thank you goes such a long way in all instances. Whether you asking for advice or asking for mentorship always always always say Thank You.
Don't Fret I am here to help you!
Step 1: Email Follow Up
Subject Line: Thank You
Message:
Hello Christina,
Hope all is well with you this morning. Just wanted to say thank you again for your time and the privilege of having an interview with Remy Cointreau USA. The position you outlined sounds both challenging and rewarding. As the Remy PR department expands I would love nothing more than to leverage my past experience to aid in its' growth. I had a wonderful time sharing my experience with the President's Leadership Academy with you and hope we can discuss it more in detail in the future.Enjoy your the rest of your day.Sincerely,Tomeka Kolleh
Things to note
1. I sent this a thank you note to everyone I interviewed with at the company including those who forwarded my resume to the right people
2. I tailored each message to include things that were discussed during the interview to make the email less generic and more personal
3. Always send thank you emails early the next morning after an interview so they can be at the top of their email inbox when they arrive to work
Tatic of Thanks
Don't stop at an email. After your interview pick up blank Thank You cards. Take this opportunity to say thanks and also highlight things that you may have slipped your mind in the interview. Put these in the mail the same day as your interview! Trust when I say these are greatly appreciated. While my office is moving my boss recently showed me the very thank you note in the picture above that I sent to her almost a year ago.
P.S. NO ONE has to help you so always show gratitude.
Xoxo Kolleh
