2nd Anniversary: Rookie of the Year

9.5.2012 This day two years ago I took that leap of faith and moved to the concrete jungle. I NEVER thought I would of made it this far but in the words of the great philosopher Young Jeezy

"I been on the grind for so long

Had to find my way on my own
I can tell ya how it beez like

I can make it anyway that I go

I can tell ya how it beez like"

Career:

Rewind to last year at this time I was an intern at the Center of Talent of Innovation. Little did everyone know I was there straight from being unemployed. It was one of those times where I had to do what I had to do. I stayed there for a month when I got the call from Remy and dipped baby dipped. Do you know I made more at that internship than I did at Remy when I first started. PAUSE you read that right when I started at Remy I was a temp and I made 12 bucks an hour. I've learned so much at Remy and they will forever be my Cinnamon Apple because they showed me everything there is to know about this industry. While everyone saw the glam of this industry on the gram I wanted to  highlight the grind that people overlook.

 HEAVY HEAVY
While I loved receiving product there was many days where I moved cases of it to and from the mailroom.

Bamboo Bruises
Walking blocks balancing these fragile bags with bamboo handles rushing to set up for tastings. By the time I hailed a cab I was at my wits end and near tears. Can't forget to mention I was also in charge of washing those glasses after every tasting

Bag Lady
I made plenty of runs to plenty of stores. The worst one to date was searching the city for jumbo ice cube trays on foot in the rain.

I bring light to these moments because these are the moments in the journey that not everyone gets to see. It's the struggles that I only vent to my close friends and family about. But baby this grind gets physical.

View from a Z list Celebrity
This year I can say working at Remy allowed me to get in the circle. I found myself at industry events every other week. Being surrounded by household names allowed me to do the above knowing that this is what it takes to get there

Oh that's just the lil Liberian girl with the greatest designer ever Jean Paul Gaultier

June and I happened to get mani right next to each other that night- Hair Flip

This was the night I had to tell my homie Ang because Sevyn wasn't ready to get on stage. She said she really like the skirt I had on too
Oh Charlamagne y'all had no right to boot Coco and Foolish lmao
Nas I admit I didn't know all the lyrics to your songs but I mouthed watermelon and snagged the cutie next to me. I salute you

Necole was the person who I met that had me in awe. She was the very reason I started an org in college called MajorMe.... BellaDonnas lol

Life with a glimpse of Love

Well seeing as I opened up this door to the world I might as well enlighten y'all on things you didn't know . Well when I met Yog I met someone else on the same night. Mr. Gold was the first person to ever send me flowers. He got jipped because they looked nothing like the picture but I was floored when the box was delivered to me desk and loved every leaf lol

The Bounce Back Got Parked

After things went south with Yog I bounced back and quick and then I realized I didn't want to be bothered at all. So I basically curveted everyone I met and spent my summer on the couch-

This post is random and long just like life. Year two took me on a whirlwind as you can see. I've learned to appreciate this city. Year two taught me the grind is supposed to go above and beyond. It was an interesting year boy boy can't wait to see what year three has to offer.
