Step outside your comfort zone

Where have you been Jaz?! Oh, hey Karen Civil!!

Hello LSO I know it's been a while since I've made a post, and I could sit here and give you a list of excuses as to why I haven't been uploading any content. Life has been crazy but, my struggles in life shouldn't keep me away from y'all!

September 21,2014 was a huge day for me personally because I stepped outside my comfort zone. As you all know I'm shy and very laid back (I keep my circle tight lol). Unfortunately, when you stay in your shell you can miss out on great opportunities.

Business and Bruch Networking Event
I wanted to attend this amazing Business and Bruch event, but I didn't have anyone to go with me. Networking brunches have become quite popular, but I never was interested in attending one.....until now. The speakers on the panel have all inspired me in different ways. So I knew I couldn't miss out on this one. I said a quick prayer and bought my ticket the day before the event.

Ming Lee, Karen Civil, and Mia Ray
I was extremely excited to hear all these women speak on there experiences, and how they achieved success. I was especially excited to hear Karen Civil (Tomeka's Shero) speak because she is the marketing machine behind so many huge celebrities and she still remains humble. Ming Lee and Mia Ray really inspired me to keep going as well. In the Midwest opportunities are limited, and to see ladies from my hometown be so successful was extremely encouraging.

After the ladies spoke and answered questions they allowed us to speak with them and take pictures. And I just had to speak with Karen (she was one of the main reasons I attended the event). Of course there was a long line to speak with each lady, but I waited patiently and right as Karen was about to leave and handle business with the events coordinator I tapped her on her shoulder and said "can I have just have two minutes?" And Karen said "of course!" I will always respect Karen for that because time is money she could have just walked away. She not only answered my questions she took several pictures with me. And held a sign that I made for Tomeka that said "Tomeka I love you" because I couldn't talk to Karen and not mention my girl.

Mia Ray and I

I also had the pleasure of meeting the fabulous fashion blogger Mia Ray. I told her about my dreams and aspirations, and she even gave me her email. How's that for networking?! She was incredibly personable and humble. And she showed me that you can be successful in fashion in Detroit. I always complain about needing to move to California or NY because there aren't many opportunities in Michigan. But, Mia is proof you can break into the fashion industry right her in Michigan. "The internet is right at your fingertips" ~Mia Ray

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to speak with Ming Lee (the line was too long and I had to leave), But, she was an inspiration as well she built her brand with only $500! I always complain about not having enough money to follow my dreams, and Ming Lee is living proof that if you follow your dreams the money will come.
Ming Lee
All in all I'm so happy I came. It was an amazing and uplifting event that I needed in my life. I also saw a few familiar faces from college and high school so I wasn't entirely alone. But, September 21,2014 was a huge growth day for me. Going to an event alone may be small to many but, to me it was conquering a fear. And that is something that you can't put a price on. I just thank God for being with me every step of the way. "If it doesn't scare me I don't do it" ~T.D Jakes. So, LSO let's live life and conquer our fears one step at a time. XOXO~Jaz
