It's the moment everyone dreads. The moment
that makes your heart drop and you one step closer to filing for unemployment.
It's the moment when you receive an
email with the subject line URGENT letting you know there has been a mistake
and blame has fell on you. This happened to me and one day it may happen
to you. Ever since I got fired from Plaza College I am on edge when it comes to
making mistakes. Here is how I fixed my Ooopsie…
Breathe:
I will not lie I panicked hell I even sweated out my edges a little. I had to remind myself that I am
human. I work on 6 brands 16 different marques and while I try my hardest
to tripple check my work mistakes will happen along the way. After I
panicked, I walked away from my desk to clear my mind and calm my
nerves. After my short walk I returned and quickly took two
puffs of my inhaler (WHET my chest got tight).
Research:
I
analyzed the situation to see where I in fact went wrong. It turns out I
sent the document to the wrong email address two months prior and failed to
realize my error. (Face Palm)
Cover all your Bases:
In
order to undo my wrong doings I had reach out to the vendor, consult
with our accounting department, and then follow with the finance department.
All in all I was able to make a way out of no way with my midwest charm. You'd
be surprised how far a smile can get you.
Solution:
After I
gathered all the information needed to fix my error I came up with a solution
to the problem and presented it to my boss. This is by far the most
important step. At this point your job is to make your bosses’ job easier. So
when a mishap like this happens don't be so quick to run to them for help
instead be resourceful as you can and find a solution
Surprisingly
I freaked out over nothing. She was very understanding and actually brushed it
off. I returned to me desk and turned on my girl homegirl Nivea and made a
promised to myself to take time. Slow it on down.
