Loyalty Doesn't Live in Corporate America

I strolled into work late thanks to good ole train delays. I sped walked pass the top flight security guards only to run into my direct report manager. While I thought she was going to scold me for being almost an hour late to work she flew past me giving me a forced smile. Low and behold not even three hours later I would come to find out why her smile fought back the flood that was ready to stream down her face...

As I got settled and went through my 70 emails that I had from my day off I quickly went to reply to the most urgent matters. As I went to respond to my direct report manager I received a bounce back message that sent my heart into my baby toe. "She's no longer with us" was all i could keep reading and rereading. I was in utter disbelief. See now my boss lady was not one for any games. Always stayed on top of things to the T. She was a hard worker to the point where I can say she let work consume her life. 3 1/2 years she put into a company and BOW just like that they let her go.

Many think that having a position in Corporate America provides stability, but what college failed to mention was the drama and cut throat behavior that also snakes up on you. Today caused me to have overwhelming and flashbacks of the time I was FIRED.

At one point in my journey through this concrete jungle I found myself as a college admissions counselor for a ICDC type college. I should of known something was up when they allowed people to register for school, write the essay, take the placement test, and apply for financial aid all in the same day. None the less the job was the reason for my survival so I worked tuesday and thrusday from 10-8 and back round every Saturday too. When I wasn't working I was interning, but at this point I was deeply invested into the position because it was putting food in my stomach and clothes on my back. If a shift needed to be covered I would do it, when the birthday collection came around I participated, when lunch needed to be picked up guess who grabbed them extra napkins and ketchup. I thought if I proved myself that I would show them how valuable I was to the company.

WELLL that wasn't the case because after I informed a student that medical assisting wasn't the best route to a nursing career. The man turned on me! -Cues Ain't nothing to cut that B off- I remember being called into that office. Being told that "We feel like you don't want to be here" "We feel like you like your internship more" What did I do grill them right back, I mean how can they tell me I valued a unpaid internship than the job that was paying my rent. How could they just up and fire me without a heads up. I was beyond livid and kept why. In fact i requested they give me 3 reasons why lol

In that moment I realized that there is absolutely no loyalty while working for the man. No matter how friendly the people are always look out for yourself and don't be afraid to DIPSET for a better opportunity because at the end of the day they won't hesitant to give you the boot.
