As I grow older I've reverted back to my adolescent ways of clinging to my mother. Growing into womanhood is harder than my favorite TV shows led on. I recently took a trip home for memorial day weekend to surprise my lil mama for her birthday and had to time to reflect on how much of her I can now see in myself...
I could of easily went to Dallas with my friends for a much needed vacay, but I knew for a fact with everything that my family has been going through being home is exactly where I needed to be. While my mom would never ask me to come home for her birthday I knew that this surprise would truly be appreciated. As I leave my childish ways behind I have now morphed into my mommy literally and the lessons she's instilled in me has gotten me through the concrete jungle
Hustle:
It was many nights I would pick her up from her second nursing job because in our house it wasn't about making ends meet but tying them together. Her work ethic never went unnoticed in my eyes. From that summer i worked 7 days a week to being here in NY in full grind mode I've never lost sight of my goal because she proved to me that it can be done.
Socialite:
"Catherine Party, Party Harder" is a running joke in our family. Back in her hay day not only was she the center of attention, but I've witnessed her make friends everywhere she steps foot. Many won't believe that I am naturally shy. Till this day I catch myself sometime backing into a corner until i'm comfortable in my environment. That is until i hear "move from me now, go talk to people" a line that my mommy used on me all the time when I was little.
Domestication:
Every Saturday morning you can find me with Fabulouso in one hand a scrub brush in the other going to work. Growing up I never understood why my mom was obsessed with cleaning but now I find myself fussing at Dee to clean. All the times I buttered my mom to go out by cleaning has indeed stuck with me. My husband whoever he may be shall thank you lol
I can go on and on about how much we're alike. I can on and on about how much she has molded me into the woman I am now becoming. So I will just finish with mom I hope that you know I love you with my whole being. I thank you for being hard on me because I now understand that all you wanted was the absolute best for me. I hope you see your best self in me.
P.S. Dad you may read this, but don't be jelly father's day round the corner. lol
Xoxo Kolleh
