PRista Prep: CHANGE

We are all privileged to life. But there's very few who make their lives into a legacy. It's amazing to witness a woman live beyond her last breathe. So I want to take this time to relish on a quote that touched me....

Loyalty Doesn't Live in Corporate America

I strolled into work late thanks to good ole train delays. I sped walked pass the top flight security guards only to run into my direct report manager. While I thought she was going to scold me for being almost an hour late to work she flew past me giving me a forced smile. Low and behold not even three hours later I would come to find out why her smile fought back the flood that was ready to stream down her face...

The Woman in Me

As I grow older I've reverted back to my adolescent ways of clinging to my mother. Growing into womanhood is harder than my favorite TV shows led on. I recently took a trip home for memorial day weekend to surprise my lil mama for her birthday and had to time to reflect on how much of her I can now see in myself...

PRista Prep: Network to Increase your Networth

While most people know the value of networking, many don't know how to actually network. When I first moved to NYC I quickly learned the networking events could very well be a scene from the hunger games. The photo above is from last August at the time I was working at Horizon Media. I absolutely hated the job and I knew in fact my days were limited at that point. I have attended a ton of networking events, but with this one I went in with the sole focus to just connect with people in my field. Looking back I met my now mentor there. Not only does she provide me with guidance in this industry she makes sure I learn the in and outs by working beside her at events like the Power 105 festival, Love in the City premiere, Love thy Neighbor premiere, and many more. At this event I was also able to connect with other PRistas that I now have friendships with. For instance I was shocked when my friend that I met at this event  invited me to her company's superbowl party. Let's just say I was completely star struck by the pop up concert by the legendary Nas that night. We live in a time where it's all about who you know. So let me let you in on how to actually network.

Life's a Beach

Life's a Beach

Life's a beach I'm just playing in the sand

Summer is upon us, and as you start putting those vacation dates in at work you want to start thinking about what to wear while you kick your felt up. You've been working hard all year, and all around the U.S I think we can all agree was the coldest winter ever. I myself will be taking a small trip in a few days, and I am in search of the perfect suimsuit. You can't enjoy your vacay without hitting the beach a few times. And you need a hot swimsuit to keeps those heads turning.

Dear Generation Ratchete

Question:

As I scrolled down my timeline I read a tweet that mentioned the ancient topic of Greeks vs GDI's it instantly took me back to the time where I once sat in a room as someone stated "divine nine Greeks are the elite individuals within the black community" #Question1: Does this  statement hold any validity . Question2: In the real world is there a difference in career advancement between individuals who chose to partake in Greek life and those who did not. Question3: Is the term GDI offensive

Hump Day Hype

So I'm sitting in my cube both ear buds in JAMMING.I only paid attention to Iggy when I found out she found love on the gram. In fact I never listened to her before yesterday when I happened to stumble upon a Brooklyn Knows podcast that featured her. This song served as my new MO on this Hump Day.

Trendy Tuesdays: Pattern Prints

The Printed Way

Patterns on Prints on Pattens on Prints

We see textures and prints all around us, and its no wonder why this trend is so popular this spring. The look will definitely make you the center of attention, and you can definitely have fun choosing different color ways. I'm currently lusting for this Carven long sleeve dress for a whopping $640 (God help me lol). The Chiffon dress is very flowy and lightweight, and is covered in light pastels. I created this look  and paired nude accessories to compliment the dress. If you want to splurge you can purchase this dress from www.profilefashion.com

I'm Ready For Something New!!~ Work Woes~Jaz's Diary Vo.3

"All the people of the the planet working a 9-5 just to stay alive"

Lord knows I'm thankful to have a job. Living in today's economy people are getting laid off left and right so, please believe my job is a blessing. Plus I get to work with special needs children, which is very gratifying. However I am on a pursuit of happiness and since this job isn't my dream job or my passion sometimes I get in a funk. Not to mention some people that I work with can really get on my nerves. All in all I like them, some more than others, but that's life.

Green with Envy: Look for Less

As I scrolled down instagram yesterday I couldn't stop myself from tripple tapping Angela Simmons picture. All throughout the day I kept finding myself going back to this picture in awe. Instead of being green with envy I decided I must spend a little green and get the look and you can too. Deets below!

Trendy Tuesdays~FlowerPower

It's the time of the week again!!!

This week I decided to tap info the growing floral headpiece trend. As I have said before there is nothing new under the sun. This festival look was derived from the "flower power hippies" of the seventies. I personally love the free and flowy fashion of that era. Everything was simplistic and boho chic. And sometimes it's nice to come out of those tight garments of today and just let your hair down. And would you believe me if I said that this whole look was under $30?!?!

Dear Generation Ratchete: Inhumanely Human

in·hu·mane

ˈinhyo͞oˈmān/
adjective
  1. without compassion for misery or suffering; cruel.
    "confining wild horses is inhumane"

Was I justified when I mollywhopped that girl for calling me a hoe?

Or how about the time Jaz and I was apart of the renegade forces that kicked a door down

One can even question was it that serious to kick all that sand in that guys face in Miami

Happy Mother's Day From LSO!!

As Mother's Day comes to an end I wanted to share my mother's OOTD. We would really be nowhere without our mothers, they put the LIFE in Lifestyleology, and even though we could never pay our mothers back we definitely will spend the rest of life's trying.

LIFE is About Choices~ Jaz's Diary vo. 2

Be Shameless

It's been a little over a week since we launched our site. And by now you know LSO is all about following dreams and "taking flight". I have continued to break out of my shell, I truly believe that at different points in life God gives you the choice to make a decision about where you want to be. I'm currently at that pivotal crossroad; I could start to slack off on the site and fade to the back. I could be mum and not promote myself and network. Or I could live shamelessly and show the world my God given talent. And I have decided to live life and do it with no shame. And I challenge everyone to do the same because God blessed us all with gifts. So stop looking at why it could go wrong and, start focusing on the positive.

PRista Prep: Reschedule or NAH!

So you've been applying to jobs like crazy and one day you open up that email or get that call telling you that they want you to come in for an interview. Just so happens the interview time conflicts with your current job. Now you find yourself in a bind to reschedule or nah...

Kolleh in The Kitchen

Pan Seared Salmon, Lemon-Garlic Pasta, and Shrimp Scampi Cream Sauce

First things first a gal like me wasn't bred in the kitchen. So lately I've been trying to learn how to cook beyond the basics. Do not try to play me I can do more than boil water, but now that I'm older I really want to learn how to make more than just than  Chicken and Shrimp Alfredo or loaded nachos. My good friend Suge is an amazing cook and has been trying to get me to expand my cooking horizons since I slipped up and told him I occasionally indulge in a bowl of beefaroni (side eye) So without further ado here's how I recreated the dish above.

Trendy Tuesdays: Denim on Denim

So this week we are kicking off Trendy Tuesdays where we look at today's trends in fashion. There's truly nothing new under the sun, and while fashion is always evolving; there's still inspiration being drawn from looks of the past. Take denim on denim for instance, a look straight from the 70's is being seen on runways and celebrities such as trend setter Rihanna. Denim on denim is a trend that is becoming very popular and creates a clean, crisp look. Because everybody owns denim, you don't have to run to the stores for this look. Today I decided to play around with this trend. I grabbed my favorite old thrifted shorts and a denim shirt I bought last year and created a new outfit.  I also wore my cheetah printed vans to give a little urban edge.

Dear Generation Ratchete'

This week's question:

As we venture more into adulthood the urgency to settle down invades the world of a woman. As we stare at the invisible clock that lingers over our heads some women have chosen to pull out all the stops to deem themselves worthy anytime they encounter a "good catch" #Question1 In a generation where men are now considering themselves the "commodity" are these legit expectations that should be delivered AND when should they be delivered?  #Question2 What are some legit expectations of a male?

Guidance to the Young Grad

May 5, 2012

That smile didn't leave my face that day. The overwhelming joy that I felt was unlike anything I had ever experienced. Despite the turn up being too real the night before which resulted in me reeking of Hennessy and ashy ankles I still walked across that stage with so much pride. On May 5, 2012 I graduated from Bowling Green State University with my Bachelors degree in Public Relations and Minor in Marketing.

Not even a week later reality settled in on my ass. By graduating meant I lost my on-campus job and while I had my degree my phone was definitely not ringing off the hook with interviews.I had such an urgency to graduate that I wasn't fully prepared for what was to come. Summer of 2012 was worse than the summer I spent with my family in the projects after my sister burned our house down. While I can not go back in time and warn the girl above I can at least speak my piece to the graduating class of 2014....

Did it for the L-O

I hear so many times "I want to launch my business, but I just don't have the money". WELLLL neither did we let that be very known. We put this dream on layaway so many times. What we had to learn thee hard  is that your starting point isn't your ending point. You have to allow your dreams to grow and please believe you better fake it till you make it. So the next step in our journey was straight off our iPhone...

PRista Prep: Oopsie At Work!

It's the moment everyone dreads. The moment that makes your heart drop and you one step closer to filing for unemployment. It's the moment when you receive an email with the subject line URGENT letting you know there has been a mistake and blame has fell on you. This happened to me and one day it may happen to you. Ever since I got fired from Plaza College I am on edge when it comes to making mistakes. Here is how I fixed my Ooopsie

Welcome To LifeStyleOlogy- Where Life Takes Flight

This may not mean a lot to you, but it means everything to us!

We All We Got

I remember back in my college days when a young  by the name of Scrio told me "We all live the same struggle" back then I brushed it off for I had no struggles. I didn't know what life really was back then for I never had to face it head on. That was until I graduated from college and decided to move to one of the toughest cities to make it in the country, NYC....

The Hustle Is Sold Separately Jaz's Diary vo.1

Risky Business

Sooo someone should of told me to major in Web Design because they are charging an arm, leg, and liver these days and people are paying. The next step in our journey was to find someone to make our vision a reality on a economic budget.

Spring Has Sprung

It may not quite feel like it, but Spring is here!!! Lets pray that we don't get anymore snow because it is possible, any who its time to trade those layers and heavy coats in for pastels and prints. Peter Pilotto mix print line for Target still gives me life they captured high fashion quality with affordable prices. And this graduate paying school loans every month is all about a bargain. Speaking of balling on a budget Target is my main haven for styling trendy without paying a grip. So, ladies next time your in Target (because who doesn't love Target) have some fun in the fashion department. Target  had a sale not to long ago, so your girl had some fun.

A tip from Jazmine: If a line is mass marketed and produced buy your favorite pieces first (full-priced) because they will sell out. Then...wait and watch your other favorite pieces and soon enough they will go on sale and you will reap the benefit. YASS HONEY!!
