Bad Boy BABY

I am sitting at my computer in the Bad Boy Worldwide building reflecting on the last 3 months of my life. This world is unlike anything I have ever experienced. Seriously the day to day hustle could make for great television. Call me crazy but I've been with doubt for this whole time until last week. As I was helping my boss pack her office the other day we stumbled across a couple of my resumes and in that moment I realized that I was placed here for a reason. So here's an insight to things I've learned/ experienced in my time here.

As I am on a high of the amazing events that are taking place in my hometown. It was only right that I shared with y'all the details on Michigan Fashion Week. That's right New York isn't the only city with a fashion scene. If you are in the Midwest this week you definitely don't want to miss MFW. It's a great way to network and witness fabulous models, stylists, designers, fashion bloggers such as Mia Ray come together in the name of fashion. Michigan Fashion Week is a company that came together to provide exciting fashion shows while also giving a avenue to network. Now in there successful third year they are gaining even more notoriety.

2nd Anniversary: Rookie of the Year

9.5.2012 This day two years ago I took that leap of faith and moved to the concrete jungle. I NEVER thought I would of made it this far but in the words of the great philosopher Young Jeezy

"I been on the grind for so long

Had to find my way on my own
I can tell ya how it beez like

I can make it anyway that I go

I can tell ya how it beez like"

Fountains of Youth

Life can be brutal on the body and sometimes the face. I'll be the first to let you know "I did not wake up like this" but let me tell you hunty I grabbed the tube that should be labeled flawless and came ALIVE. I'm no one to keep secrets so let me fill you in on my fountain of youth tricks....

Post Grad Great Depression

Involvement in campus activities+ Great Grades + Internships x Networking = Entry level Position

WRONG

This formula may have worked in the past, but not so much anymore. This is the dream everyone was sold and while some us were able to cash in that hefty receipt (oh I'm sorry I meant DIPLOMA), most of us found ourselves in the midst of a new age great depression.  People often tell me that they admire me because I am working in my chosen field of public relations, but what they always fail to realize about my journey is that it took me 1 year and 4 months to break into it. So seeing as we are all in this struggle together here's some tips I learned along the way...

The Tactic of Thanks

In this day and age applying for a job is like the hunger games. So many candidates applying to ultimately be the last one standing. While great interviews skills and experience gets you noticed there's one tactic that will always make you stand out!

Bang for your Buck: Zara

I like Zara but some of the items tend to be on the pricey side. Judge me if you want I'm on a PRista Budget. As I strolled past it yesterday I saw the sale sign and decided why not take a look. I walked in the door and into a broke girls retail heaven!

Life Lately

"People wondering where the heck you been. Every time I come to the blog not a thing is new" exclaimed my cousin Jatu. Guilt struck in for I know that my little break into LaLa Land has gone on for far too long. Now I could use the timeless excuse that "I've been soo busy" but that would be a lie. Truth is life has gotten the best of me. I'm human just like you and sometimes when your world gets clouded I advise everyone to step back from it all and make yourself a priority. Now is a great time to fill you in on my life lately....

Hump Day Hype

Sooo it's that time again. As I reflect on the date I went on last night I can't help but give it a soundtrack...

As I strolled into my date late once again:
I know I know I know (What you know Meek?)
You ain’t that Guy you say you is (Well how you know though?)

After the date ended I was singing a different tune:
Never in my wildest dreams, no, no, no
Did I think someone could care about me, oh

It's safe to say I'm an unstable female that jumps to conclusions and thinks with the worst case scenarios in mind. LOL

LSO and Art: A Cultural Experience

If you are in the Detroit Area, or will be June 20-September 7,2014. Then you definitely want to check out  Bruce Weber's exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Bruce Weber is a celebrated fashion photographer and filmmaker who captures the rich culture of Detroit through striking images. The Detroit Institute of Arts has teamed up with Conde Nast to present the exhibition that will display 80 photographs of Weber's work.

Hump Day Hype

It's Wednesday and despite waking up late for work I'm in an extremely great mood so here's want I'm currently dancing to in my Cubilar

It took me forever to find this song because I'm horrible with lyrics, but this song takes me back to 2008 my most limber twerking days

Who knew Future could be so romantic. Lawd't CiCi got a real man on her hands. My homegirl was right we didn't us a basketball player LOL. Side Note- Hate Kanye's verse

Sooo I am addicted to heartbreak songs. I listen to sappy sad songs all day everyday even when they have absolutely nothing to do with my current love life. This song is just so sad babygirl came home to her man leaving. Naw bro that wouldn't happen to me...again LOL

Let me know what you're listening so I can add it to my "Tune out the Man" soundtrack

PRista Pow- The Hustle

The PR hustle is never ending. I can easily be complacent with where I'm at in life right now but this PRista wants the more. So last night I took my talents to the premiere of Marlon Wayans Funniest Wins.

What does one wear to a Hip Hop Concert?!

Hey LSO people! So last weekend I had the pleasure of going to a huge Hip Hop Concert in my area. I bought the tickets early April, and I had been counting the days because I'm a huge hip hop fan. Ask Tomeka I know the words to every song known to man. The concert I attended "The Big Show at the Joe" featured the likes of Big Sean, Kendrick Lamar (my husband lol), JCole, August Alsina, Trey Songz (my other bae lol), Ty Dolla Sign, and a few local acts. So now you understand my excitement?! With all the huge acts that were to perform I knew I would be on my feet for a long time, so I wanted to be cute, but comfortable. I made the mistake of wearing heels to a Drake concert last year, and my feet were on fire and I didn't want to make that mistake again. Below, I pulled together a simple but cute look that will help give ideas on what to wear to a Hip Hop concert.

Revamp Your Office

Revamp Your Office

Another week another dollar...

The weekend is over, and yet another week is upon us. But don't worry LSO has your back!! There's an easy and quick way to make your work space feel like home. As young twenty-somethings most of us have started breaking into corporate America, and have been given a little space to call an office. And whether you have an actual office, a cubicle, or you  work from home. I have found a few key pieces that will give your office a warm positive atmosphere, because at the end of the day we spend eight plus hours at work. We might as well be comfortable there. So lets Revamp our space shall we?!?

Daddy's Girl

My daddy was the first male I have ever stalked. I remember like it was yesterday when he told me that I couldn't come with him on a Saturday outing with him and my uncles. While he took a shower I put on my shoes and snuck in the trunk of his Jimmy Truck. I laid in that trunk in crouching tiger hidden dragoon position for TWO hours before he finally came out. Just as we flew down the freeway I screamed surprise. We very well could of died that day and I was returned the surprise as he dropped my lil self back off. That day made two things official that I was a daddy's girl to my core and that it's safe to say I'm insanely passionate.

Over the years I've realized that my mother has taught me what it takes to be a woman and my dear ole dad has instilled in me my self worth. A father can teach you many things so here's my papi taught me.

Why Moving is a Must

Most of us ventured away to college 6 odd years ago. Some stayed close to home and others ran as far as they could. As college came to a close many of us had to make the decision whether to retreat back home to a rent free lifestyle or take on the world. I too retreated home, but I must say when I moved I found myself in a different world. Literally the hardest thing I've ever done, but it was all worth it and here's why.....

-No Angel-

My heart was broken at the end of last year and it wasn't from a love interest, but yet from an unexpected life plunge. Having someone abruptly snatched from me is something that has occurred too frequently in the past few years for my liking. While I choked back all my emotions just to get by from day to day, life took me on another turn that introduced me to everything that I had been running from....

Part II: Brutal Honesty

So yesterday I posted  Part I of my mission to discover why I am single and I must say one can definitely learn a lot from an old flame.  After reading those responses from my former lovers about a thousand and one times I came to the conclusion that Me, Myself  is still a great catch. I mean I'm independent, driven, a future Olympic baby breeder, and a new found comedic genius. Plus if I dished out so much BS my friends would of surely told me before this mission right....But boy was I more wrong than the time I thought I could use baby powder as a substitute for carpet fresh.

Hump Day Hype-Heart Break Edition

In the midst of a heart break these are sure songs that got me through or sometimes broke me down even more lol
After calling his phone about 15 times I would sulk and play this song on repeat

Then I would slowly transition to my girl B and have an all out concert with the lights off

I use to have a thing for ball players so for  the grand finale I would play this song till I fell asleep

P.S if you going through it right now all I can say is that days will come when someone will show you a side to Love that doesn't involve any hurt.

Autopsy of my LOVE

L O V E

The act of being voluntarily vulnerable is something that I've witnessed many times and yet it's still so foreign to me. Weeks ago, I stumbled upon Necole Bitchie personal post  and saw my home girl suffered from the same Cupid Kryptonite. Her post talked about her struggle with love and as I read the more it reflected my own hardships. Like most girls, I too, get questioned why  I'm single like a dollar bill.  So for the last two weeks I went on a mission to uncover the truth. So here's my autopsy to my inner Joan, Carrie Bradshaw, and Julia...

Disclaimer: Photo used in post was from Spring Break 2011. That's really fat Tuesdays in the picture and not me!

Sorry Geh: The World got the Best of Me

Yesterday I found myself at my landlords daughter graduation party. It was amazing to see the joy of a recent high school grad ready to get out into the world. It didn't dawn on me until a few moments ago that on this day 6 years ago I too took a strut across the stage.

PRista Prep: CHANGE

We are all privileged to life. But there's very few who make their lives into a legacy. It's amazing to witness a woman live beyond her last breathe. So I want to take this time to relish on a quote that touched me....

Loyalty Doesn't Live in Corporate America

I strolled into work late thanks to good ole train delays. I sped walked pass the top flight security guards only to run into my direct report manager. While I thought she was going to scold me for being almost an hour late to work she flew past me giving me a forced smile. Low and behold not even three hours later I would come to find out why her smile fought back the flood that was ready to stream down her face...

The Woman in Me

As I grow older I've reverted back to my adolescent ways of clinging to my mother. Growing into womanhood is harder than my favorite TV shows led on. I recently took a trip home for memorial day weekend to surprise my lil mama for her birthday and had to time to reflect on how much of her I can now see in myself...

PRista Prep: Network to Increase your Networth

While most people know the value of networking, many don't know how to actually network. When I first moved to NYC I quickly learned the networking events could very well be a scene from the hunger games. The photo above is from last August at the time I was working at Horizon Media. I absolutely hated the job and I knew in fact my days were limited at that point. I have attended a ton of networking events, but with this one I went in with the sole focus to just connect with people in my field. Looking back I met my now mentor there. Not only does she provide me with guidance in this industry she makes sure I learn the in and outs by working beside her at events like the Power 105 festival, Love in the City premiere, Love thy Neighbor premiere, and many more. At this event I was also able to connect with other PRistas that I now have friendships with. For instance I was shocked when my friend that I met at this event  invited me to her company's superbowl party. Let's just say I was completely star struck by the pop up concert by the legendary Nas that night. We live in a time where it's all about who you know. So let me let you in on how to actually network.

Life's a Beach

Life's a Beach

Life's a beach I'm just playing in the sand

Summer is upon us, and as you start putting those vacation dates in at work you want to start thinking about what to wear while you kick your felt up. You've been working hard all year, and all around the U.S I think we can all agree was the coldest winter ever. I myself will be taking a small trip in a few days, and I am in search of the perfect suimsuit. You can't enjoy your vacay without hitting the beach a few times. And you need a hot swimsuit to keeps those heads turning.

Dear Generation Ratchete

Question:

As I scrolled down my timeline I read a tweet that mentioned the ancient topic of Greeks vs GDI's it instantly took me back to the time where I once sat in a room as someone stated "divine nine Greeks are the elite individuals within the black community" #Question1: Does this  statement hold any validity . Question2: In the real world is there a difference in career advancement between individuals who chose to partake in Greek life and those who did not. Question3: Is the term GDI offensive

Want to know what the leader of Generation Ratchete' Thinks...

Hump Day Hype

So I'm sitting in my cube both ear buds in JAMMING.I only paid attention to Iggy when I found out she found love on the gram. In fact I never listened to her before yesterday when I happened to stumble upon a Brooklyn Knows podcast that featured her. This song served as my new MO on this Hump Day.

The Printed Way

We see textures and prints all around us, and its no wonder why this trend is so popular this spring. The look will definitely make you the center of attention, and you can definitely have fun choosing different color ways. I'm currently lusting for this Carven long sleeve dress for a whopping $640 (God help me lol). The Chiffon dress is very flowy and lightweight, and is covered in light pastels. I'm Ready For Something New!!~ Work Woes~Jaz's Diary Vo.3

"All the people of the the planet working a 9-5 just to stay alive"

Lord knows I'm thankful to have a job. Living in today's economy people are getting laid off left and right so, please believe my job is a blessing. Plus I get to work with special needs children, which is very gratifying. However I am on a pursuit of happiness and since this job isn't my dream job or my passion sometimes I get in a funk. Not to mention some people that I work with can really get on my nerves. All in all I like them, some more than others, but that's life.
